Are you living genuine? The Merriam-Webster dictionary says that something that’s genuine means it's actually produced by, or proceeding from, the actual source or author. Something that's genuine is sincerely felt or experienced. So what does that mean when it comes to you and I and how we're living?

I think a great quote and one of my favorite quotes when it comes to living genuinely is from Dr. Wayne Dyer when he said,

“Freedom means you are unobstructed in living your life as you choose. Anything less is a form of slavery.” – Dr. Wayne Dyer

Pretty powerful words. What does that mean to be unobstructed or to live your life free from obstructions? Does it mean that nothing will ever get in your way?

No. What it means is, you live your life based on YOU — based on your actual values. So, what do we mean by values? I'll give you a really easy example that we can all understand…

You know those times when you watch a movie, and they just hit you hard emotionally? Maybe you cry, maybe you just feel goosebumps or you get excited or feel emotional or sympathetic or proud or  maybe you just want to cheer?!

You see these stories about people that just love unconditionally and they’re courageous no matter what's happening around them, or they're just kind to people no matter how mean people are to them. Maybe you see a story about somebody who just chases their dream no matter how many people are laughing at them or pointing fingers.

Why? Why do we feel emotion when we see these stories or hear these stories? It's because they connect with us at our core.

We feel emotion because at our core values we see these people or hear the stories about people that live free from obstruction. Because no matter what, they’re being real. They're not trying to be cool, they're not trying to be accepted, they're just deciding to be completely genuine.

And we feel that. I don't care who you are or where you are, you feel it when you see someone being genuine. And you know what's even more important? You feel it when you're being genuine — and the flip side to that is you feel it when you're NOT being genuine.

So let's get to the solution. How do we know if we’re being genuine, and how do we develop better habits if about being genuine if if may seem like, in retrospect, we've kinda been controlled by other things or people most of the time?

Well, before I mention how to improve the genuineness in our living, let's talk about some of the benefits of it. Because being honest with ourselves and living honest goes beyond the benefits of feeling ‘good’ mentally, which is a huge benefit, but beyond that…

Research tells us that living honestly (which includes being honest with yourself) leads to:

  • Lower stress

  • Decreased cellular aging

  • Increased psychological well-being

  • Longer life

Yea, not bad right?

So how do we check in on how genuine were being? Well, it's as simple as this — we've got to release our “If’s”.

See, a lot of times we develop these ‘conditional’ behaviors. These behaviors that say, if “A” happens, then I’ll do “B”. In other words, we’re only kind to people if we think they were kind enough to us, or we only love people if we think they'll love us back, or were only generous if we think will get generosity in return.

But think about this,

If all of our actions are dependent on what other people do — then who's in charge?

How can you and I claim to be in control of our life if our decisions are based on everybody else's actions?

The only solution to living a genuine life is for us to release our conditions and embrace our values. We've got to embrace the intention of living up to the best of what we're capable of, because when we do, then we're free — then we're finally being genuine.

Will there be challenges? Always.

Will you always ‘feel' like being kind? No, you won’t. 🙂

I don't always ‘feel’ like being kind. I don't always ‘feel’ like being in a very loving mood around everyone. But, guess what? It's my intention to.

And if people or places or things cause me to have a really hard time being genuine with myself, well, then it's time to reevaluate if you’re around the right people, if you're in the right job, if you're in the right place or if you're doing the right things to begin with.

But once were being genuine, and once were living free — yea you guessed it, then we finally start living the best life of our life.

Until next time you guys, be loyal to yourselves, be loyal to each other, and create the best life of your life.

I can't wait to talk to you guys next time. Love you guys.
